I've lived here my whole life and have always chased bugs to study and collect. As an adult, I would photograph the bugs but still hadn't taken the leap to actually keep bees. It took meeting the right beekeeper to get me hooked. My apiary began in May of 2017 with one hive, then two, then five. As of summer 2024, we've restocked one hive with new packages of bees, one Italian. We wish the girls good health for the season!
My honey is not heated or processed. I collect from the girls; extract from the frames; filter once to remove wax pieces and bottle. I also help harvest and extract honey with my fellow keepers in the area, as they help me with the heavy lifting in my apiary. Northwest Indiana has an amazing variety of nectar and pollen throughout the year and our honey is some of the best I've ever tasted.
I can't wait to hear what you think.
